Special Education Teacher

Seeking full and/or part time staff, for middle and high school level special educator to work in alternative educational/treatment program for youth with emotional-behavioral disabilities.

BASIC FUNCTION
To direct, plan, and accommodate portions of the academic instruction to students in grades 4-12 in an integrated mental health program consistent with areas of deficit as identified in student IEP or 504 plans.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Decision-making; responsible for academic modifications consistent with IEP’s and 504 plans.
· Design and implement individualized academic curriculum and instruction appropriate to the needs of each student after consultation and review with sending school and CVA classroom teacher. The main area of focus will be math and language arts skill acquisition.
· Implement social and behavioral programming for each student in the classroom.
· Develop positive and therapeutic working relationships with youth, families, and staff.
· Communicate well with all parties involved with the youth, both verbally and in writing.
· Accept and respond to administrative and professional supervision.
· Complete all agency required paperwork completely and in a timely manner.
· Work consistently within the mission of the program.
· Follow and implement all agency policies and procedures.
· Willingness to learn de-escalation and restraint techniques; maintain CPI certification.
· Perform other duties as assigned by Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS
· Licensed or eligible for licensure in Vermont.
· Teaching experience with children with severe emotional and behavioral challenges or other mental health issues preferred.
· Bachelor’s degree required.
