What is Conflict Free Case Management?

Conflict-Free Case Management means that the people who help plan your care (case managers) must be separate from the people or organizations that provide your care. This ensures that your care is planned fairly and that your needs come first.

Case Managers Help With:

  • Identifying the services you need.
  • Creating a personal care plan and connecting you to services.
  • Ensuring that the services you choose are being delivered as planned.

Case Managers Prevent Conflicts of Interest Through These Rules:

  • They cannot be a family member or paid caregiver.
  • They cannot make financial or healthcare decisions for you.
  • They cannot have financial responsibility for you.
  • They cannot have any financial connection to the organizations that provide your services.

In Vermont, people working for organizations that provide HCBS services cannot have a financial connection to the organizations that offer case management.
These rules ensure that your case manager focuses only on what is best for you and your care.
