The Counseling Service provides 24 hour emergency services for residents of Addison County experiencing a mental health crisis. Such crises may include:
- Depression
- Acute anxiety
- Suicidal and homicidal thinking or behavior
- Family problems
- Increased symptoms or onset of symptoms of mental illness
- Alcohol or drug emergencies
We help callers resolve the immediate crisis and make plans for follow up services if needed. We can help with:
- Risk assessment
- Safety planning
- Supportive counseling
- Critical incident/post traumatic stress management
- Short-term and follow up treatment and referral
- Coordination of other services such as hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs, and community resources
- Psychiatric consultation
Services can be provided on the telephone, face-to-face at our office, at Porter Hospital Emergency Room, Middlebury College Health Services, or in the community, depending on the situation. When you call, we will assess the situation for safety and clinical need and decide on the most appropriate response together.
